Code of Conduct

1 Inclusion

Salt City Historical Fencing is a welcoming environment to all, and all participants are required to make this true. Discriminatory behavior against race, religion, gender, sex, age, ability, experience, etc., does not belong at this club. Our goal is to bring people into the art of fencing and train them to the best of their abilities. Participants have a right to ask questions and have them answered.

2 Safety

We aim to make the practice of historical martial arts as safe as possible for all participants. As such, you will never put any participant at risk of harm intentionally through your actions. Learning and practicing control will ensure the safety of others and demonstrate your development as a fencer. Harassment, discrimination, and bullying of any kind are strictly prohibited.

3 Respect

Respect for other participants, the club, and the community as a whole go hand in hand. Be attentive to your peers, whether instructors or participants. The first is through a willingness to learn and seek constructive feedback. The second is through being a good partner in practice, sparring, and as attendees of the club. Be mindful of all members and acknowledge that differences can manifest and show in a number of ways. Not everyone’s path in learning will look the same.

Respect also extends to the spaces and equipment that we use in the course of fencing. Care should be shown to any spaces in which we practice, with as much avoidance as possible of damage. Take care of your equipment so that it does not present a safety issue, and make sure that loaner equipment is not unduly worn down.

4 Representing SCHF

The above rules apply during all club activities. Additionally, you are expected to abide by them whenever visiting or attending any event or practice hosted by another club. You represent everyone at Salt City Historical Fencing, not just yourself.
